چکیده

We present dark and antidark diffraction-free beams and discuss their properties. We show that all such beams must be partially spatially coherent. The new beams can be used for optical trapping of atoms.

On a class of electromagnetic diffraction-free beams.

We present a general theory of electromagnetic diffraction-free beams composed of uncorrelated Bessel modes. Our approach is based on the direct application of the nonnegativity constraint to the cross-spectral density tensor describing the electromagnetic field distribution. The field correlation properties are most conveniently derived in the spatial frequency domain, where the angular spectr...

Solitons in Bose–Einstein condensates

The Gross–Pitaevskii equation (GPE) describing the evolution of the Bose–Einstein condensate (BEC) order parameter for weakly interacting bosons supports dark solitons for repulsive interactions and bright solitons for attractive interactions. After a brief introduction to BEC and a general review of GPE solitons, we present our results on solitons that arise in the BEC of hard-core bosons, whi...

Temporal dark polariton solitons.

We predict that strong coupling between waveguide photons and excitons of quantum well embedded into waveguide results in the formation of hybrid-dark and antidark light-matter solitons. Such temporal solitons exist due to interplay between repulsive excitonic nonlinearity and giant group-velocity dispersion arising in the vicinity of excitonic resonance. Such fully conservative states do not r...

Diffraction-induced instability of coupled dark solitary waves.

We report on a novel instability arising from the propagation of coupled dark solitary beams governed by coupled defocusing nonlinear Schrödinger equations. Considering dark notches on backgrounds with different wavelengths, hence different diffraction coefficients, we find that the vector dark soliton solution is unstable to radiation modes. Using perturbation theory and numerical integration,...

Diffraction-Free Bessel Beams at mm- and Submm-Wavebands

Bessel beams are a family of diffraction-free beams. They have many unique properties and prospective applications. Much attention has been focused to this subject in optics. Recently, the studies of such beams at mmand submmwavebands have been carried out in our group. The investigation results, including their theories, generation, propagation and potential applications, are presented in this...
